Classic HotSync via Bluetooth Connection [Video]

Classic is the app for the Palm Pre that emulates the older Palm OS, allowing apps for older devices to run on webOS for the Pre. And the last time we had something from MotionApps, was when they had a video that featured HotSync via Wi-Fi connection.

MotionApps has released a new video of HotSync for Classic. Which shows HotSyncing via Bluetooth. This means that in case Wi-Fi is not available, you can still share data between your desktop computer and Classic on your Palm Pre using Bluetooth. Or you can choose between the two depending on which connection you prefer.

This major feature of HotSync is coming as version 2.0, and is said to feature improved overall performance over the current release. The upgrade to v2.0 will be free for all existing Classic users. The video features setup and once you complete these few steps, you’re ready to go, according to MotionApps.

Tweed 1.0 Will Become a Paid App

It has been a while since we posted anything new about Tweed, the free Twitter app for the Palm Pre. Now we have word from Pivotal Labs about the upcoming Tweed 1.0 to be a paid app. Existing Tweed users can continue to use the current version, (0.9.16) and you can still grab a copy until the paid apps are available.

According to Christian Sepulveda, “at this point, Tweed has a thriving user base and continues to grow in its maturity and capabilities. However, this does come with considerable costs to Pivotal Labs and we can’t indefinitely subsidize the entire cost of development. So, we’ve decided to make Tweed a paid application in the App Catalog.” When the new paid version replaces the existing, it will install as a new application, so, unfortunately, you will lose existing timeline markers and bookmarks, and you will have to re-enter your accounts. This is a consequence of the new App Catalog structuring. Pivotal Labs hope you’ll find the new features compelling enough to upgrade.

But don’t fret, Pivotal Labs will continue to develop and support Tweed. Charging for it will let them keep bringing you new features, like the ones in the 1.0 release. Which are these new features you might ask, well there will be a variety of new features available in the initial 1.0.0 release of the paid application. Here you go:

Features

* true, direct photo upload (no more email)
o TwitPic, TwitGoo, TweetPhoto, yFrog, Posterous
* new notifications dashboards
* full-screen view of user profile image (tap user picture on user profile scene)
* preference for number of tweets on fetch
* ability to change password
* show number of tweets in user profile
* direct messages can include photos

Now, our neighbors the Canucks, and other new Palm Pre markets will still enjoy the free Tweed until Palm launches a commerce enabled App Catalog in Canada and those new markets. The new Tweed will cost $3.99. However, for the next few weeks, to help ease the transition, it will be offer for the discounted price of $1.99. Also have in mind that Pivotal Labs has a roadmap of new features in the works for future versions of Tweed, including theme support, landscape mode, Flickr uploads, and more.
