P120 and C40: New Palm Devices Coming to Sprint?

Recently we had news from PhoneArena about two mystery Palm devices apparently heading to Verizon Wireless. Now, Precentral has news from an anonymous tipster, about two more Palm handsets, this time not for Verizon but Sprint. Both of these new devices have a price of $1, which more likely is a placeholder, so I wouldn’t get to excited.

So the devices that are heading to Verizon appear to be the P101 and P121 smartphones. And according to the logic applied at that time, the P101 must be Verizon’s Palm Pre. This time we notice a Palm C40 smartphone handset, which so far, nobody has the slightest idea on what kind of phone that is. Some have even venture to say that the C stands for compact, meaning that it could be the EOS/Pixie.

But the most important discovery here is, the handset code-named Palm 120. Which is very similar to the P121 for Verizon. And lets keep in mind what Derek Kessler at Precentral mentions. He reckons that “the P1XX series is going to be the Pre and its derivatives”. This could mean that the P120 and P121 are a variation of the Pre. Kessler goes on to say that one of this devices could be a non camera version, and the other handset could have more memory than the Palm Pre.

Well, whatever they are, I’m happy to see more devices from Palm coming to different carriers. This means Palm is not sitting still, and plans to regain its pedestal in the smartphone realm.

Will China Telecom Sell the Palm Pre Too?

The Palm Pre now has a home in Canada besides the US, and we know is coming to the UK, Ireland, Germany and Spain in Europe. And lets not forget Telstra in Australia will have the Pre before the end of this year. Now China appears to be getting ready for the Palm Pre as well.

According to Financial Times, “China Unicom is in talks with Apple over exclusive rights to sell the iPhone in China. And China Telecom is planning to offer the Palm to its subscribers.” Well, to most of us here, the part about the iPhone doesn’t matter. Now, the Part about “the Palm”, well, that’s another story. Many people believe that the Palm, is in fact, the Palm Pre.

For now, the Palm Pre is a CDMA device, so it would seem obvious that China’s Telecom – which is a CDMA carrier – is planning to launch the Pre. This would be logical since Telecom’s rival, Unicom will have the Pre’s rival; the iPhone. In a personal note, I think it would be great for Palm, since China has so many potential customers for the Pre. I just don’t know if they will like those Palm Commercials with Tamara Hope in them. Maybe Chinese customers will like those TV ads, after all, they were filmed in China.
