Breaking: Palm Pre Coming to Verizon Within 6 Months

Yesterday we had reports that AT&T was playing with the idea of bringing the Pre on board once Sprint’s exclusivity period with the device is up. Well Reuters released a report today that dropped an even bigger bombshell.
Verizon will be carrying the Palm Pre within 6 months according Lowell McAdam who is a top exec over at Verizon.
To quote McAdams: “Over the next six months or so you will see devices like Palm Pre and a second generation Storm.”
Bringing the Pre to other carriers makes sense, considering that Sprint continues to lose subscribers every quarter. Palm is also in trouble as a company and NEEDS the Pre and webOS to be a success to survive. Walt Mossberg recently did an interview with Yahoo Finance and stated that he thinks Palm as a company is “running on fumes” and really can’t compete with other phone makers because of the huge amounts of cash their competitors (Apple and RIM) have to throw around.
SUPRISE! Palm Pre Syncs Flawlessly With iTunes.

Thinking about getting a Pre but still torn because you want to be able to carry all of your music with you? We’ll today music lovers and Pre fans are in luck, Fortune Magazine is reporting that if you plug a Pre into iTunes it syncs all of your content exactly like an iPhone or iPod touch would. It looks like as of right now the only music that the Pre won’t sync are the older DRM protected songs (Apple started selling DRM free songs on iTunes earlier this year).
We know that there are plenty of other devices in the wild that have third party software allowing them to sync with iTunes (Palm Treo and 700p). However the nice thing about the Pre is the functionality is built right into the firmware of the device allowing you to connect and sync without installing any additional software at all.
It will be interesting to see how long it will take Apple to let the hounds (lawyers) loose on this one. I just think its ridiculous that you actually have to pay Apple to remove the DRM protection from older songs when it shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
